Show COMMUNICATION t 4 . Honorable Japanese Protest. Dear Mr. Editor of Salt Lake Tribune I have read your article of this morning, "What about Japan?" You say Japan is not doing her part In this war. But let me allow to say that England asked us to look after all the seas between China sea and Suez canal. When Hin-dues Hin-dues rebeled in Singapole, it was the Japanese navy that restored the peace. You did not hear much about it, so vou do not count it to our credit. It was "the Japanese fleet that .allowed to trap the German warships at the South. American Atlantic for British fleet. Japanese papers were eager to send an army to Europe. But it was Russian govenment which discouraged us, in-torming in-torming us that Russia needs no help in men; she has -enough rescuits; what she needs is ammunitions for there is only one rifle to every Ave soldiers: and the result was that Japan did every thing tor her to increase her ammunitions; Japanese government fixed the price for the ammunitions, one riiie seven dollars and fifty cents, for which Americans charged thirty-one dollars. But you overlook the most important reason when you say Japan is doing very little keeping back her army from the battle ground. That is, Japan hate to repeat the bitter experience of Turks and Tartars. Europe Is the cursed pit of human hu-man race especially to the Mongols. Japanese Jap-anese are willing to help our allies In Asia, but the temptation to be the victor or to show some heroic action in Europe is poisonous to the coming illumination in the far East. It is same with the Californian Questions; Japanese has no idea to come over to this new continent and possess a territory as Herr Zimmerman Zimmer-man has kindly assigned to us. Unfortunately, Unfor-tunately, America does not care to understand under-stand Japanese national psycology. For the Oriental mind. Honour is first than flesh unlike Huns. Russians call the Rus-sio-Japanese war the Gentlemans war comparing it to this present war. Japan kept honour through that war as the world knows. And I can predict that if you would give Japanese In California the right to be naturalized to yo'ur country, coun-try, which they consider the fundamental principle to treat a race with humanity, next day . they would leave this country with gratitude, for what thev are longing is not Territory but Equalitv. Japan Is not without mistake; annexation annex-ation of Korea and encroachment on China are the principle mistakes that she has committed lately. But in Asia vou possess a colony too, beyond the doctrine doc-trine of Monroe. Tou must understand, Japan is not Germany as the editor of the "World's Work" puts it. Japan after the war, you will find, shall be one of the greatest powers for the league of permanent perma-nent international peace. Japan is not a country to be feared. I wish you would help to take away from your country, the most silly "Jap-phobia." TOTOHIKO KAGAWA. Ogden, Utah, Mar. 26. |
