Tracy was one of a large number of Industrial Workers of the World members mem-bers who went to Everett on a free speech trip on November 5. Beard, a deputy sheriff, was killed during the clash between the party and a number of deputies which occurred when the boat on whif-h they were tra veling reached the Everett city dock. MoHae's testimony is the first that has been introduced directly conuectinsr Tracy with an active part in the battle. S-heriff McRae himself was one of thirst men on the dock wounded during dur-ing the affray, and during his direct I examination identified the suit of j clothes and shoes which he worp that day. He pointed out a bullet hole iu ! his left shoe and nine bullet hole? in j the coat, which, he dvi'hirrd, he had received re-ceived during the engagement. He uas ! wounded four limes. His other direct testimony confirmed the slat em cuts of previous witnessps that the deputies had ben instrm-tpd, f on arrival at the dock, thru they were not to use firearms unless absolutely 'necessary. Me declared his belief that the storv that a large number of I. W. W.'s were brutally beaten at Beverly park, on the outskirts of Everett, ou October 20 was entirely untrue. |
