Mullinet" said yesterday that for a week past he had an investigator getting information as to what is being done in Commercial street.. Mr. Mulliuer said: "Obviously it would he poor courtesy to take a hand in matters that the city commissioners aro now working on and a solution to which they arc actively active-ly undertaking to find. If the city government finds itself unable or is unwilling to handle the situation, it will be tho cue of the couty attorney's offico to act when this becomes apparent appar-ent and the city commissioners have given up effort "to correct the condition. condi-tion. Then we shall certainly act. "As to whether or not restricted districts dis-tricts may be countenanced, that is not a matter for either tho city commission or the county attorney's office to determine. de-termine. That is a matter for the legislature legis-lature to determine. At present, the law does not provido for their countenancing counte-nancing and there can be but one outcome out-come of an effort to continue one in effect." Mr. Mullincr made it plain that he is not disposed to condone the exigence exig-ence of a restricted district. He said he had secured information should he need it in taking measures to enforce en-force the law. He explained that the law is clear on the question and that it doesn't matter whether it is enforced by the city or bv the county, it must eventually be enforced. "Interference at a time when the question is being carefully considered by the city government would be an imputation of bad faith to the city officials," of-ficials," said Mr. Mulliner. "Such investigations in-vestigations as I have made were made without disposition to so interfere so long as the city commission was wrestling wres-tling with the problem with a view to effecting a correction of conditions." |
