Detail.- of the killing of .Tack Welch, a freighter, hy a hear in Yellowstone park, several days aero, have been brought here by arrivals from the park. Welch and another man were sk-epinn beneath a wason and a third roan was alep on top 01" the w.mon, when a grizzly bear seized Welch, draped him f rom lieiieath the waon and proceeded pro-ceeded to eat him alive. The creature stripped the lies! from one of Welch's arms, bit into one of his luns. ani! partly "disemboweled him. Welch's screams awakened awak-ened the other men. one of whop promptly fled. The second man. although without fhearms. in accordance with the park regulations, went to the rescue of Welch, distracting the bear's attention by throning it chunks of bacon. The bear abandoned Welch for the bacon, and while it devoured the fat meat Welch's companion com-panion dragged him away. Shortly after the attack, and vhile the bear still was engaged wirh the bticon, a tourist arrived in an automobile. Welch was loaded Into the machine and hurried to the Muse tourist camp. He died later. The bear, after finishing the-bacon, attacked at-tacked t lie load of the wann, overturning overturn-ing the heavy vehicle, tossing bales of hay In every direction and tearing every bale open, supposedly In search of more bacon. Welch was the fourth man attacked hy hears In the park in five weeks. Ned Frost and Edward .Tones of t bis place, who were mauled by a grizzly, which they fought off with frying pans and clubs, are recovering here from their injuries. Chub June, a park employee.
