Show TO KIR ! BANK TAXPROTESTS Judge Lewis Will Hear Complaints of Three Financial Fi-nancial Institutions. The assessments of taxes against three banking institutions, the Continental Conti-nental National bank, the Zion's Savings Bank & Trust company and McCornick & Co., are to be considered in court before be-fore Judge T. D. Lewis. The cases were taken into court in an action directed di-rected against the county assessor on the ground that the assessments were excessive on tho valuations of bank stocks. The complaints of the banking firms contended that they had no action except ex-cept in equity, while the respondent answered that remedy could be had through paying the tax under protest and suing to recover any portion they considered unjust. This answer of the assessor was embodied in a denrlirrer, which the court overruled. The case will now come to a consideration under au answer to be filed by the defendant I assessor. In the controversy the taxes of the Continental National bank are computed! at $7312.10, the Zion's Savings Bank & Trust company at $42. 0(57.45 and McCor- i nick & Co. at $39,675.75. The banks, respectively, declare a correct tax should j be $2704.91, $6314.14 and $9455.55. |
