Show WHEN TO WORK FOR ELECIIiOF RUSHES Organization Is Formed and Campaign Outlined in Conference. BRIDCEHAMPTON", N. Y.,'.TuIy 7. Charles K. Hughes devoted the greater part of today to meeting women who will work for his election. The nominee and his wife motored nearly 100 miles to the country home of Mrs. Harry Payne Whitney at R-oslyn, N. Y., and there received about 300 women workers, most of whom had met him before. Mr. Hughes 'did not address his callers, call-ers, but spent the entire afternoon discussing dis-cussing political issues with various groups of them. Chairman "Willcoi of the national committee also held a number num-ber of conferences with women leaders. A national organization of women was perfected during the afternoon, officers were elected and a plan of campaign was outlined. The new organization, which has adopted the name "Woman's National Committee of the. Hughes Alliance," Alli-ance," plans to have branches in all debatable states and to devote its energy ener-gy to working for the national ticket without allying itself with Republican state organizations. Miss Frances A. Kcllnr of New York, former head of the social service bureau of the Progressive, party, was elected chairman. The following were elected vice chairmen: Miss Harriet Vittum of Chicago, Dr. Catherine B. Davis of New York, M rs. Frank W. Gibson of California. Cali-fornia. Miss Mary Antin of New York, Mrs. Winston Churchill of New Hampshire, Hamp-shire, Mrs. Cornelius Yanderbilt of New York, Mrs. Gifford Pinchot of Pennsylvania Pennsyl-vania and Mrs. Charles C. Rnmsey of New York. Twenty-five thousand dollars, Miss Kellnr announced, has been raised to start tlie campaign. Mrs. Gifford Pinchot Pin-chot gave $1000 additional and a number num-ber of other small contributions also were made. |
