Show BINGHAM RESIDENTS OBJECT TO TAX LEVY Citizens May Protest Against Proposed Action of Town Board; $10,000 Needed. Taxpayers of Bingham are preparing to protest against tne proposed action of the town board to levy a special tax assessment to enlarge and improve and perfect the town, water system. About a year ago a bond issue of $25,000. was voted to erect a fire station, sta-tion, a town hall and to enlarge and improve the water system. Of the amount $15,000 was to be used for the water -system, $7000 for the town hall and $3000 for the fire station. i The fire station was erected at a cost of $3000 and the town hall at a cost of $11,000 and $3000 has been expended on the water system, which has been enlarged to carry double its original capacity ca-pacity in some parts of the town. The town board; it is said, found it impossible impos-sible to build a town hall to meet the needs of the town for $7000 and has levied a 10-mill tax to cover the additional addi-tional $4000. Since the original plans for improving improv-ing the water system were made, other improvements have been found necessary, neces-sary, which increased the cost of the proposed improvements to $22,000. Of this amount, $12,000 of the original bond issue is in the hands of the town treasurer, but it is proposed to vote another an-other bond issue or $10,000 to provide money to complete the work-. The town board has advertised that the proposed levy will be discussed at its regular meeting on October l'and that all protests will be heard at that time. |
