A Nish, Servia, dispatch to the Itavas agency says : " Resuming the offensive the Austrians Austri-ans passed the Drina river to the south and southwest and marched toward Kroupani and Vahevo fServian towns about ten and thirty-five miles, respectively, respect-ively, from the Bosnia border). "On a front of more than sixty miles, comprising Liubovia, Svornik, Losnitza and Lesnuza, along the Bosnian frontier, fron-tier, desperate battles havo been fought for four days. "The latest newTs declares that the situation of the Servians is favorable in spite of desperate attacks." ROME, Sept. 16, 10:15 p. m., via Paris, Par-is, Sept. 17, 7 :40 a. m. A telegram from iNish says that the losses ol the Servians Ser-vians are small compared with those of the Austrians and besides they are immediately im-mediately made up by fresh men of whom there is a plentiful supply. Provisions Pro-visions are abundant and the health and hvgienic condition of the Servians excellent. ex-cellent. Reports of cholera and typhoid outbreaks, tho dispatch says, are false. Fierce guerrilla warfare, it- is said, is raging on the Bosnian frontier between be-tween Servians and Montenegrins on one side and Austrians on tho other. Special mounted troops are attempting to prevent the advance of the allies toward to-ward Sarajevo, while the Austrians defend de-fend railway lines and the Driua river with blockhouses mounting quick-firing guns. Some of these blockhouses havo been taken by the Servians. |
