Three companies com-panies of the Fiftv-nintb iufautry stationed sta-tioned at Holdau lost 356 men. The Forty-seveuth infantry, with headquarters head-quarters at Posen,' suffered 2HS causal-ties. causal-ties. A majority of both reciments are Polish. A battalion of the Oue hundred and thtrty-sixth infantry, stationed at Strassbnrg, ost ;4ti men, one company alone losing seven officers and 114 men. A battalion of the One hundred and forty-second infautrv of Bodcn Baden reported the loss of 10 officers and 249 men. Two battalious of the One hundred and fortv-third infantry, stationed sta-tioned at fetrassburtf, lost 13 "officers and 498 men. Despite these losses the organizations fought on heroically, the official announcement an-nouncement says. The total oi5 the published German casualties to date is 35,786 killed, wounded or missing. Since last week the average dailv losses are shown by the casualty lists to be 3200. Among the killed on September 14 was Prince Otto Victor of Schoenburg WaUlen-berg. WaUlen-berg. a first lieutenant of the Hussar guards and a brother of the Princess of Wied. Major Genera Nielaud was lulled while leading his brigade in a street fight in a French city on August 27. Count Kirchbach, commander of the Tenth reserve corps, died on September Septem-ber 3. On being mortally wounded he gave up his command to General von Eben. General Hindenberg's advance in east Prussia is described as progressing progress-ing to such an extent that a regulation regula-tion concerning the importation of Russian cattle, which are being used for the army, is being issued. Experiments made in the manufacture manufac-ture of new bread composed of rye, flour, potatoes and starch are declared to have the most satisfactory results. Prince Joachim, the youngest son of the emperor, who is at Bellevue castle, is said to be recovering from his wounds, but it will be several weeks before he is quite well again. All four faculties of the University of Keoningsberg have conferred honorary honor-ary degrees on General Hindenberg in recognition of his services in repulsing repuls-ing the Russian invaders of east Prussia. Prus-sia. Prince Frederick Carl of Hesse, brother-in-law of the emperor, was severely se-verely wounded recently by a bullet which entered the thigh. |
