Show CHANGES ARE MADE IN NAVAL COMMANDS Important Announcement Is Issued by Secretary of the Navy Daniels. WASHINGTON, Sept. 17. Important changes in naval commands were announced an-nounced todav by Secretary Daniels, continuing his policy o giving all line officers adequate sea duty. Kear Admiral James M. Helm, commandant com-mandant of the Charleston, S. C. navy yard, succeeds Rear Admiral William B. ijaiicrton in command of the Atlantic reserve fleet at Philadelphia, Admiral Caporton having been detailed to command com-mand tho newly organized crniser squadron of the Atlantic fleet. Bear Admiral John K. Edwards, lately president pres-ident of the board of inspection for shore stations, which has boon abolished, will assumo command of the Charleston yard. Kear Admiral Nathaniel Usher, at present commandant of the Norfolk navy yard, goes to the New York yard, in succession of Captain Albert tl leaves, detailed to command tho battleship Utah. For the present Commander Louis do Steiguor. captain of the Norfolk Nor-folk vard, will continue actiug commandant, com-mandant, on account of the illness of Bear Admiral Usher. Secretary Daniels intends to appoint an industrial manager to serve under Admiral Usher in tho Now York navy yard. |
