Show BOYS STEAL ENGINE; ENJOY WILD RIDE Reform School Inmates Adopt Novel Method "by Which to Make Their , Escape. S ED ALIA, Mo., Sept. 17. Escape from, the reform school at Boonvillo, Mo., a wild ride through the night on a stolen engine, pursued by detectives in a similar conveyance and in imminent immi-nent danger of being hurled into a wreck through a dispatcher's orders, was the experience last night of four bovs, who "were still at large today. Seven boys "were in the party tb.it evaded guards and left the school. Three were recaptured. According to the authorities, the remaining four made their way to Sedalia. Engine No. 708 one of the largest used by the Missouri, Kansas & Texas railway, stood in the yards here with steam up. Soon railroad rail-road employees noticed it was moving. Another engine was quickl? obtained and with detectives aboard started in Sursuit. But the race way one-sided. ;o. 70S, bearing the lads, auickly drew away. Orders were given by the train dispatcher here to derail the stolen engine en-gine at Pilot Grove, thirty-five miles south of Sedalia. With whistle blowing blow-ing and bell ringing, the sngine, traveling trav-eling sixty miles an hour, reached Pilot Grove before the switch had been arranged ar-ranged and swept through the town. A mile further on it was abandoned and the boys disappeared. |
