Show Provo School Must Rely on Inexperienced Men for 1914 Contests. THE B. Y. Most of tho recruits aro high school boys and aro raw at athlotics, but they aro all working hard, following instructions instruc-tions to the letter, and many good men may bo among them this spring. Among the promising athletes who will make up tho B. Y. TJ. team this year are Barkdull, McDonald, Basmussen, Nichols, Nich-ols, Jones, Cooper, Whitlock, Gubler, Eyre, Stowoll, Hale, Lambert, Simpson, Daniels, Ivnudsen. Frcchlcton, Jacob-son, Jacob-son, Moore and Purcell. In the high jump tho boys arc doing about u feet 4 inches; the sholput record- is slightly better than 34 feet. Tho weight men aro throwing the hammer 100 feet and the discus about 95 feet. Two of the pole vaulters have vaulted ten feet and 19 feet G inches represents the best mark thus far in the broad jump. The distance men have run tho mile in five minutes and six inches, the half in 2:35 and tho quarter in 58 seconds, while 11 seconds is the best record thus far in tho 100-yard dash. In spito of these modest showings tho "boys are determined to put up a good fight in the spring meets and aro practicing faithfully. The annual class meet ana relay carnival will be held- April 25 and at the conclusion of this meet the "Y" chances will bo prottj' well understood. un-derstood. The Provo boys meet Utah on May 2 and the Aggies on May 9. The state meet will be held in Provo on May 16. |
