Hand, tenor, whose artistic singing has, since he entered upon his professional career, won the plaudits of many thousands, will be heard in recital at the Salt Lako theater Wednesday evening. April 15. Mr. Hand will sing the entire programme, sixteen song3, in four groups. This Is accounted an un.-usual un.-usual feat for a vocal teacher, but Mr. Hand proved his ability In his recital last year to accomplish It successfully. And Die programme Is not an easy one. Every number measures up to a truly artistic ar-tistic standard of composition, the rendition rendi-tion of which requires much ability and skill. Professor John J. McClellan will play the accompaniments for Mr. Hand. The recital Is complimentary and tickets may bo secured Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at Mr. Hand's studio, 4S East South Temple stroet. Relative to tho movement now under way to complete arrangements whereby Salt Lako City may send a chorus to San Francisco to compete In the great International Inter-national eisteddfod of 19113, John H. Davis, a musician of Logan, offers some interesting inter-esting suggestions. Tho contest committee commit-tee plans to offer $25,000 in prizes, of which thero is to be a single prize of 510,000 to the winning choir. B. H. Pclrce. manager of the Salt Lake Choral society, Is firmly convinced that by selecting the very best of Salt Lake's singers, not confining con-fining the selection to the choir alone, but with choir members composing tho majority, ma-jority, a body of singers may tie massed to successfully compete with any and all contestants. Referring to a recently published pub-lished article In The Tribune, In which the eisteddfod plans were discussed by Mr. Pelrce, Mr. Davis writes: AH thl3 has brought to mind tho fact that. In the arrangement and setting forth of prizes, an injustice heretofore has been done to the unlucky un-lucky choirs. It is no small work to prepare a combination of voices for such a great undertaking, I assure you. Those In charge of the eisteddfod arrangement ar-rangement should have the above statement In mind, as. In my opinion, no eholr should bo loft without a prize. Ten thousand dollars Is an Immense amount for the victorious choir. Suppose Sup-pose we cut this to 55000 and divide the rest cciually between the unfortunate un-fortunate choirs. This, In my Judgment, Judg-ment, would be the right thing to do. I would not go to the expense and trouble to prepare a body of singers, were they ever so good, on the terms proposed and set forth In the eisteddfod eistedd-fod contest plans. Suppose five choirs In all will compete. com-pete. Allow the victorious choir $5000. second best $2000, and divide the balance equally between tho other three choirs. The choirs, down the line, should receive consideration and material assistance In their great effort to win tho prize and honor, for it is great to win and very humiliating to lose.
