Estimates on tho probablo cost of tho construction of tho mill were received, but no action was takon relative rela-tive to tho timo when tho construction would hogin. Senator Kearns, however, how-ever, said tli tit it wus tho purpose of tho company to build the mill in tho near future Tho mino is apparently rich in ore, but tho ore cannot bo profitably handlod until tho new mill is nut in operation. Senator KearnsMvas delighted with his trip to the coast. lie said tho country was very beautiful and the prospects for an exccllont year in California Cali-fornia were bright. With reference to business conditions Senator Kearns said: Business on tho coast is still a littlo quiet, though tho outlook is good and conditions are considerably consider-ably improvod. Tho crop outlook is excellent and the Californians are snro of rich roturns from their products. Work on tho big fair grounds at San Francisco is progressing pro-gressing rapidly and the big exposition expo-sition will prove a great success. As a whole, however, tho business busi-ness outlook on tho. coast is not as good as in Salt Lake. Business Busi-ness conditions hero aro showing a steady improvement and there ap- ficurs to bo an optimistic feeling in he air. In Caluornia as elscwhero there is some politics being discussed. The prevailing opinion appears to bo thnt Charles, M. Shortridgo will bo tho Republican nominee for United States senator, Francis J. Henoy tho Progressive candidate, uud tormcr Mayor J. D. Pholan or San Francisco tho Democratic candidate. can-didate. After leaving California I visited atono and Tonopah. The principal object of tho trip was to secure estimates on the cost of erecting a mill on our mining property near Tonopah. It is probablo that we will decide to build the mill in tho near future. The construction of a mill ia ncccssarv in order to facilitate fa-cilitate the handing of tho ore from the mino. Mrs. Kearns and the Kearns children chil-dren will spond Easier at tho ranch at Santa Rosa, and Senator Kearns hnd anticipated boing with them, but business busi-ness callod him back to Salt Lake somewhat some-what soonor than ho had expected. |
