Announcement Announce-ment was made today that the, Oregon Short Lino and Oregon-Washington Railroad & Navigation company havo put in twenty-one commodity rates covering cov-ering nearly all tho manufacturers of Oregon and effecting reductions under the old class rates of from 1-1 to rtO per cent to Idaho and Utah common points. This is said to be the first important recognition of Pacific coast manufacturers manufac-turers enabling thorn to reach the Rocky mountain teritory in competition with the east and middle west. J. A. Reeves, general freight agent for the Oregon Short Line, returned from Portland yesterday. When seen last night ho said: "I wont to Portland to iako part in the conference regarding tho rates. Others who took part m tho deliberations delibera-tions are K. 13. Millor, traffic manager, and IT. E. Lounsberry, general freight agent, for the Oregon-Washington Railroad Rail-road & Navigation company, and J. H. Lothrop, traffic manager for Ihe Portland Chamber of Commerce. , Wo lowered the rates in comparison lo the reduction made on similar articles from the oast two years ago. The reduced re-duced rales probably will go into effect in sixty or ninety days." |
