Show V. M. G. A. FOiFEITS STATE CHAMPIBHSHIP V Docs Xot Appear for Game, and University Is Declared Winner. The Y. M. C. A. basketball team failed to appear at the university gymnasium Tuesday afternoon for the scheduled game with the university, thereby forfeiting for-feiting the game and also losing the state amateur basketball championship. A largo crowd had gathered at the University Uni-versity of Utah to witness the - contest and the people wero greatly disappointed because of the non-appearance of the V. M. C. A. team. Coach Maddock claims the state championship cham-pionship for his team, as per arrangements arrange-ments made and agreements entered Into by the teams previous to the opening of the basketball schedule. It seems that there was an understanding between the P. Y. U. of Provo and the University of Utah that whichever team defeated the Y. M. C. A., the winner should be recognized recog-nized as the state champions. Tn the present standing of the teams Provo has beaten the Y. M. C. A.. The Provo team won the Intercollegiate championship, the university finishing second in the race for the pennant. |
