Show WHEAT ROOSTED B GOVERNMENT REPORT Flurry Also Affects Other Grains and Close Is Marked by Net Gains. CHICAGO, March 8. Government flg-ucs flg-ucs on grain reserves on the farms gave an unexpected Impetus to prices in all the pits today a few minutes before the close and sent them soaring to heights from which they as rapidly receded. Wheat Jumped from 2c to 2Jc In tho flurry and finished from Ic to 2c up. Corn gained similarly In the excitement over what was considered a bullish report nnd lost more of its gain. Oats entered into the sudden uplift and also receded quickly. quick-ly. Provisions gained strength and finished fin-ished strong. The excitement which preceded the close In the wheat pit followed a session which was practically without a salient feature. The government figures placing the farm reserves at 173,000,000 bushels were about ten millions below other estimates. esti-mates. A. local crop expert some time ago gave an estimate which was one million mil-lion lower than the official figures and this had prepared some of the larger concerns con-cerns for tho actual figures, so that they were unimpressed by the rush of buyers. Prices Jumped In response to the demand, and May quickly mounted to $L13, 21c above tho low point for the day. while July and September made nearly as spectacular progress. May closed c to lc up at $112; July finished with a gain of 11c at $1,051, and September He to 2c up. at $1,018. The government figures on the corn reserves were as great or a greater sur-prlso sur-prlso than tho wheat, estimates, and a similar upturn followed, and figures for the futures shot up from 28c to 21c above the low points. May rati up from 61Rc to 64c and then sank to a close at 623c. the futures copying It closely. Cash com displayed dis-played some strength and prices advanced ic. demand being generally good. No. 3 yellow sold at 5Sc to 5Sic. The closing declined futures left them well away from the low point, with May Be to 3c up. at 62c, in the more distant deliveries, showing less strength. Oats advanced and receded with more sedateness. May traveled between 433c and 45c. distant options making similar gains. The close for May was weak, ic off. at 44c; whilo July and September closed strong and near the high point. July ?c up. and September Be up.
