Tho accounts of the work in these benighted lands as related by tho moii who arc veterans veter-ans at tho front, formed interesting and instructive and profitable entertainment. One of tho speakers declared that, in the darkest land, tho battle is between Mahomet and Christ, and that, in tho orient India particularly tho enemies of Christianity wcro nioro stubborn in their resistance than ever. All of tho workers who have been in the oriental field declared that the call of opportunity is heard far nnd wide; that tho iron is hot and that tho timo to strike is now. So surely, say these men, as the cliauco is permitted to slip past, .i"t so surely will the cause of Christ, civilization and humanity suffer suf-fer an appalling setback. In tho evening fascinating addresses were dolivcrcd by Dr, Hcbcr Jones, a famous missionary, and by Ocorgo Shcr-wood Shcr-wood Eddy, who has been in India for thirteen years. The former spoko on tho situation in Korea and tho Jatter devoted his attention to a discussion of tho awakening of Asia. Great Results Expoctcd. At a mooting of ministers incident to a luncheon at the Wilson hotel at noon, more than half a hundred pastors pas-tors declared their belief that tho convention con-vention in Salt Lake City will have the off oct of arousing the keonest interest in a gcuoral awakening of men especially espe-cially to the responsibilities which, as Christians, rest upon them. The Utah ministers bore testimony of their faith in tho abiding good .that will result from the convention. Tho programme for Wednesday, which is the closing day of the convention, contains an especial feature in the dc-noniinntionnl dc-noniinntionnl rallies that will bo held during the noon recess. Theso meetings will be hold at the places indicated and will bo addressed by tho strong men who have come hither for the convention conven-tion These meetings will be the nioro valuable because conditions affecting the local situation in each of tho churches can be gone into deeper and 1 in greater dotail than would bo possible pos-sible at a general meeting. Thero will bo nioro business tnlk in the forenoon, nud in tho afternoon there will be a mass meeting for women. This will be held in the First Methodist Episcopal church, as will also all of the sessions, savo the deinoninational rallies. ral-lies. Attendance and Enthusiasm. While thero was no record-breaking attendance at any of tho sessions Tuesday Tues-day tho number of those present was satisfactory to tho ministers of tho city and stato and tho men who arc foremost in tho movement. The enthusiasm en-thusiasm was marked. Tho interest manifested in tho proceedings was made evident by the participation of the delegates on the floor. The mon who had come to listen to what should be told them by those who have given time and thought to the subject, hesitated hesi-tated not to mako themsclvps .heard. Many nnd .many a suggestion came from the local delcgatos which was accepted ac-cepted by tho visitors with cordial thanks. .One of the speakers made mention men-tion of the interest that was shown by tho lay delegates, saying that such a degree of interest' was uncommon and was rarely met with in the travels of the party. Tho local pastors arc confident that tho convention will provo to be an immeasurable im-measurable help in their churches; that tho spirit which will bo aroused by tho groat meeting will not sleep again, but wiU continue to make itself felt in the local work, bringing added membership mem-bership to the churches and arousing a zeal unprecedented. |
