PREPARE FOR CARRYING ON CRUSADE DURING YEAR Committee Is Appointed to Look After Matter of Arranging for Funds. Thero was a large numbor of delegates dele-gates at. the dinner given at the "First Methodist church at G:30 o'clock Tuesday Tues-day evening. Tho general committee was present, and many things pertaining pertain-ing to the work which has already been accomplished and the work for Wednesday Wednes-day were taken up. All of the delegates dele-gates conferrod informally with ministers min-isters of tho various churches. All speechmaking was confined to lirief talks along various lines. One of the main topics discussed at tho meeting was tho work of preparing prepar-ing for next year's campaign. The financial campaign received much consideration. con-sideration. This was fully discussod, and many valuable pointers wcro received re-ceived from thoso who have had wide experience along these lines. Following the luncheon a general commit toe of well known churchmen of Salt Lake was chosen, to bo known as the committee on funds, tho funds to be used in the coining year's work. Tho committeemen selected were W. C. Lytic, Judge M. L. Ritchie. Rev. Jonas McClain. Mr. Svr'cuk, Mr. Harding and L. IT. Page. Notice was given at the meeting of tho denominational rallios at luncheon for men only at several of tho churches Wednesday at 12:30 o'clock. A good attendance at each is expected. Pastors Aro Hopeful. More than half a hundrod ministers attended a luncheon Tuesday noon at the Wilson. The mooting was presided over by Bishop N". S. Thomas of Wyoming. Wyo-ming. Bishop Thomas told of a Sunday Sun-day school in a church in Philadelphia of which he was pastor that raised $15,000 for missions last year and will raiso $17,000 this year. He said the superintendent became interested and co-operated with tho church in arousing arous-ing enthusiasm in tho classes. Tho superintendent su-perintendent doubled tho offering of the Sunday school itself. That superintendent super-intendent is dead now, and in his pfneo will bo appointed a conimittoo of twelve to carry out tho policy laid down by him. Dr.- X F. Goucher of Baltimore made an appeal to tho ministers. He said the pastors should havo the largest pos-siblo pos-siblo interest in the work themselves. Heboid of a boys' grammar school in India which had been instrumental in giving the church many ministers and educated laymen. There were 50,000 Christian adherents in ono community thero, ho said. World Minister's Pield. Dr. Goucher said the minister's field is the world, not merely his own local church. The local church is his force and ho must train his force so that it will bo possible to reach the whole world. In doing this ho will not only be helping the world, but also will bo helping the local church. Georgo Sherwood Eddy, a missionary who has been thirteen years in India, presided at the meeting. He inquired of the ministers how thoy were impressed im-pressed with tho convention and its work. Tho ministers responded bv saying say-ing thnt thoy aro looking for greater interest iu their own local churches as a result of tho movement, especially among the men. |
