Show ACTIVE FOR GOOD ROADS. The several counties of Utah should wake up on the good roads proposition, even though thoy aro a litilo dilatory about good roads as such; thoy should bestir themselves to got tho appropriations appropria-tions granlod by law for their activity in this cause. There aro twenty-seven counties in Utah; night of fheso have ho far failed to respond to the call of tho good roads commission, and havo taken no stops to get the appropriation allowed them by law, for the making of good roads. Un-loys Un-loys they move soon they will lose the money appropriated foi them. Nineteen counties have taken the preliminary pre-liminary alcp of filing with Ilio commission com-mission the maps specified in the law, and pointing out. (he roads within their boundaries that arc lo be known a3 State roads, for improvement under the State appropriation. The State lias been divided into road districts, each member of the commission commis-sion having several counties within his jurisdiction. Liltlo c:in be done l3' them, however, until the proper maps aro filed. Washington county has responded to the need of good roads more quickly than others; it lias .becu tho first to place its application; its maps aro filed, and it has designated tho road from St. George lo Sheni as fho ono upon which it wants the thousand dollars appropriated appro-priated for roads in that county gets. We urge upon all of tho counties tho necessity of joining in this good roads work. They should all be in with their maps, and their selections of roads to be known as State ronds, l3' the time of the nc.vl. meeting of the commission, in April. The need of cood roads is imperative im-perative everywhere, and not less so in Utah than in other Slates. There is a lino opportunity olTerod for a good beginning be-ginning in this necessary work; it only remains for the. officials and tho people to bo alive on tho question, and to mako the proper effort for success in having the best of roads through all the State. |
