Show MEADOW VALLEY IRK WILL BE CONTRACTED Object Is to Rush Rebuilding With as Many Firms as Possible Pos-sible on the Job. Although tho Salt Lake Roulo has already al-ready begun repair work with Its own men and material on the minor washouts along tho lino duo to tho great flood on New Year's ovc, It Is understood that various railroad contracting firms arc figuring tentatively on tho work of rebuilding re-building down tho Mcudow valley wash. Railroads as an almost universal rule are -built, or rebuilt, by contract, and the Salt Lake Route rebuilding, both for tho temporary lino and tho' permanent track, will probably bo no exception to tho rule. It Is understood that, the Utah Construction company, that has dono so many million dollars worth of work for tho Harrlman Interests, will no doubt be one of the chief concorns on tho work. Georgo Thompson, tho railroad contractor who has built tho Harrlman tracks down tho Snako rlvor from Huntington, is cx-pectod cx-pectod to be another heavy bidder. Other railroad contractors also have their eyes on tho work, and It Is understood that all contractors who can deliver tho goods will have all tho chance they wont. No ono or two concorns. It la understood, under-stood, are large enough to put the work down tho Meadow valley wash, though, as quickly as tho railroad management wants It done. One of the chief reusons why tho Meadow valley routo was again chosen was because from a temporary track the permanent work could bo attacked at-tacked (n a score of places and all the construction material "and ability available avail-able could work at tho same time, thus doing tho Job without tho waste of a, day. At present, however, all tho construction construc-tion machlnory, material and organizations organiza-tions arc busy repairing the numerous washouts on tho Southern Pacific, tho Oregon Short Line, tho Western Pacific and other lines. This will soon be done and the contractors and railroads can then center their efforts on tho Meadow valley work. Railroads as a rule do not own mules, harness, scrapers, nor mnlntaln the organization or-ganization necessary for extensive railroad rail-road building, nor do they wish to. because be-cause there Is seldom any need for them on a largo sculc On the other hand, this Is the contractor's business. As soon as possible, It Is understood, tho Salt Lake Route will call for bids on the Meadow valley work and welcome all reliable contractors, giving only a comparatively small part of the Job to each, with stipulations that tho work must go through on railroad time and to stay In splto of heat and high water. |
