Ho recently declared that some women wero running mad in respect re-spect of dress. He was not averse to women making themselves attractive; In fact. It was their nature to do so, but he said there was a wide difference between be-tween a fashionably dressed woman and a woman whose dress bordered on the Indecent. Turin and Venice, the latter, his old home, have taken up the matter and In their sermons have denounced women, young and old. who appear publicly in "scandalous attire." One priest at Milan said that women of that class were a menace to their families and to the community. Ho also said a woman who appeared In the Chantlclcr outfit needed either tho care of an expert on mental diseases or the surveillance of the relatives. rela-tives. It Is said that a skillful visiting physician was in reality a woman masquerading. It seems that a certain "Mujor Falconi" had been calling at tho hospital lending his assistance as-sistance to the staff and no suspicion of nnythlng being Irregular arose until the attention of one of the regular doctors was called to the fact that Major Falconi was supposed to bo lit Switzerland. The major was not unknown to some of the staff, and It was remarkable that If he was being Impersonated the substitute bore an extraordinary likeness to the original. The doctors, however, determined to get at the bottom of tho mystery, and sent an official to call at the major's residence. The door was opened by the major's housekeeper. Emilia Bosl. and no sooner had the hospital official seen her that ho felt convinced that this was the person who had been In disguise of a physician at the hospital. He Inquired for major Falconi. and being Informed that the major was not home, returned to the hospital and assured the director that "Major Falconi" was a woman In disguise. When he next called at the hospital "Major Falconi" was questioned so closely that secrecy was no longer possible. Investigation showed that the woman who certainly bears a remarkable likeness to the real major had during his absence, lost her reason and Imagined herself to bo hor master and by means of the uniforms succeeded In deluding others. |
