Show BOGUS PROPHESY DROPPED. What shall it profit a man to prophesy, proph-esy, if his prophecies nover bo fulfilled? ful-filled? Years ago tho boys and girls of the Mormon church were taught to regard with all seriousness the prophecies of the prophets and apostles of tho church concerning the American Indians. It was frequentlj' foretold by these men, from Joseph Smith down to a half score years ago, thnt tho Lord would redeem tho Lamanitcs, causo them to become "a white and delightsome people" nnd constitute them 1-1 is battleaxcs for the destruction of this Nation, upon tho Tuins of which -was to bo roared the kingdom of God with the prophet as earthlj' king. And there used to bo a groat deal of faith placed in that prophecy, too, for tho saints lived in full expectation that the Lord would so manage things that tho Indians would become a mighty people. They so'ught friendship with tho Lamanitos on that account, and stuffed tho aboriginal mind with the great things that had been foretold of them by the big chiefs of the Mormon church, and in the Book of Mormon, put forward as their history. his-tory. But wo hear no moro of that now. Statistics show that as the years go by tho Indians aro alap passing. Thoy have dwindled vastly since this country was first invaded by tho whiies, and it looks now as if their destruction wero coining with greater rapidity the farther far-ther it proceeds. And in this little particular par-ticular of present da' history making wo find both tho Mormon prophets and their Book of Mormon to bo discredited in a most shameful fashion. Therefore do they now keep exceedingly quiet concerning con-cerning the Lamanites as tho "Battle-axes "Battle-axes of the Lord." |
