Slade, charged with rifling the mails of the post-office, post-office, and. following the Indictment, a bench warrant was issued Wednesday fov Slade's arrest. He was Immediately taken i before United States Commissioner Baldwin, Bald-win, who fixed Ids bail at SuOOO. Later in the dav he was released on a bond signed by Frank ZUcGurrln and E. G. O'Donnell. The arrest of Slade on January 1G, 1000, bv Inspector McKee of the postofficc department, de-partment, came as a decided surprise to the postal authorities and to Plade's manv friends. He had been employed in the department for a period of twenly-elcht twenly-elcht years and was trusted implicitly. It is rumored among lr. Slade's friends that he will plead guilty to six of the thirteen counts upon which he was Indicted, In-dicted, and rely upon the mercy of tho court. He will be represented by Attorney Attor-ney Frank B. Stephens. |
