Gallagher, chief witness for tho prosecution, was completed, com-pleted, after (wo and oue-halL' days of interrogation. The indicted street railway rail-way president, according to conclusions drawn from today's proceedings, has undertaken lo attack Iho motives of Gallagher and his associates, members of tho Schniitz board of supervisors, and will endeavor to show that Gallagher Gal-lagher regarded above everything else the immunity contract whereby he was absolved from legal penalty for tho crimes to which ho had confessed. Prolonged arguments relating to tho admissibility of testimony characterized today 's session, and at one time the jury was excluded for more than an .hoiir, while the opposing attorneys fought out a problem that will be determined de-termined only when the trial is resumed next Monday. In submitting to tho jury, what was declared to ho conclusive evidence of perjury on Gallagher's part, the defense referred repeatedly to instances in-stances wherein the testimony of the witness was at variance with vital utterances ut-terances made in previous trials. |
