Show TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS ON NEWPORT COURTS NEWPORT. R. I.. Aug. IS. Tho superiority su-periority of superlative teajn work over brilliant Individual play was demonstrated at tho opening day of the twenty-eighth annual national championship tennis tournament tour-nament on the Casino courts today, when H. H. Hackctt and F. B. Alexander of New York, who have boon tennis partners part-ners for several years, successfully defended de-fended their title to tho championship in doubles by defeating B. C. Wright of Boston and R. D, Littlo of Now York, three sets to love. The scores were 6-1, 7-5, G-0. Hackctt and Alexander captured two legs in the championship and will win permanent possession of the cups if they defend their title successfully next year. Good progress was made today in the singles. There were few surprises. Among tho twelve defaults the most prominent was that of L. K. Waldner of Chicago, one of the western champions in doubles.
