Show PROHIBITION CANDIDATE ACCEPTS NOMINATION CHICAGO. Aug. IS. At Music hall tonight, to-night, in the presence of .a I.-ii ku and on-thuslastfc on-thuslastfc audience. Eugene W. Chafln. of Chicago, accepted the nomination for tho presidency by the Prohibition par I v. The address formally notifying Mr. Chafin of ills selection as the head of the Prohibition Pro-hibition ticket was mudo by Prof. Charles Scan lan or Pittsburg, on behalf nf the committee on notification appointed ut the national convention. Leading members of the party from Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana. In-diana. Nebraska and other states were present. Seated on the platform were the national executive committeeman, chairmen chair-men of the various slate committees, the eommlttcu on notification and several prominent Prohibitionists. Charles R. Jones, chairman of tho national na-tional committee, called the meeting lo order and announced the selection of Samuel Dickie, president of Albion college, col-lege, Albion, Mich., as chairman of the gathering. Mr. Dickie delivered a brief address and then introduced Mr. Scanlon. "You arc not asked," said Mr. Scanlon, turning to Mr. Chafln. who occupied a seat on the platform, "to lead a forlorn hope. The final Issue of this struggle Is not now, nor ever has been, in doubt. The principles advocated bv the Prohibition Prohi-bition party aro as certain to prevail as time Is to continue." |
