Business continued rather weak on tho local produce market Tuesday, and although al-though there was a large consignment of fruit received from California, housewives could not bo tempted to mako many purchases. pur-chases. No new features were presented in the way of prices nnd dealers spent most of the time arranging and rearranging rearrang-ing their display of eatables. Tho shipment of fruit from the "Golden State was 0110 of the largest received in the city in several week's, and Included large quantities of apples oranges, pears, peaches and cantaloupes, and one whole car was devoted to watermelons alone. Tho season for raspberries and blackberries black-berries Is now almost at an end, nnd although al-though no advances have been made In quotations on the fruit, the demand Is very slight. Strawberries are now entirely en-tirely off tho market. Oranges and lemons are not qulto so plentiful as they were a week or so ago, but dcalors sav they are having no troublo in meeting tlio demand. Bananas aro extremely plentiful but the price of the fruit remains stationary. It was quoted at 30 and 35 cents a dozen Tuesday. Utah pears have already made their appearance and are meeting with a far better sale than the California variety. Dealers say this promises to bo a big season for pears. |
