Show DOLLY MEN IS BEAOHOR II Hustling Mining Camp Across Lino in Nevada Confidently Faces Future. NEW ROAD CONSTRUCTED OVER THE MOUNTAINS Solves Diflicultv of Bringing! Rich Tonnage to Salt Lake Smelters. Special to Tho Tribune. DOLLY VARDEX, Nov., Dec. 12. Tho beginning of tho Inst month of tho year hnds tho mining frntcrnity of Dolly Vardcn and surrounding districts far in advance of this time a year ago. Tho depressed feeling of that time has disappeared. Tho development work for tho year has been rewarded with many now and valuable strikes in the four vnluablo metals. Ono among tho most valuable improvements made in this district during the closing mouths of tho 3'car is a roadway over the mountain moun-tain pass running from Dolly Vardcn Springs on tho cast, thence to Watson Springs on the upper slopo and from thenco over tho mountain and down tho western slope to Phalan Springs aud on to Currie. our railroad station, supply sup-ply point and postofficc. This work has been dono by Mooro & McAuloy and so perfectly completed that tho heavv snows of winter will no longer lock the miner m tho mountains for months at a time. Tucso gcntlqmcu have at their own expense so perfected and rebuilt re-built tho old pnssway that it is now one of tho best, mountain roads in tho state and absolutely frco from danger. Ono among tho most important strikes during the venr is that made by Clydo Til ford on 'the ''Man Behind" group, the samo being owned by himself and three partners residing at Riverside, Cnl. In a former letter this property was alluded to, since which timo each succeeding day's work with double shifts has increased the oro output and has bettered the mino not only in increased in-creased values, but in the enlargement of tho ore vein, until now tho bottom of the shnft contains an almost solid bodv of high grade lead-silver ore. Many hundred sacks of this ore has been" stored under ennvas covers, ns a guard against snowstorms, until transportation and shipment can ho made. At tho present timo the ore is being hoisted bv horse power. By his work and unde'r his skillful management, manage-ment, Mr. Tilford has an ideal timbered mino in point of workmanship and snfety to tho men working under his direction. Adjoining this property to the cast and south lays the Eldorado and Mother groups of twelve claims owned by the Millick borthers (five in number) and ex-Sheriff of White Pino County George Newman. With a force of six men, a skip and horso power, these gentlemen arc piling up ore as long as present short days will permit. Tt was at their well supplied camp your correspondent enjoyed en-joyed his Thanksgiving dinnor. Work will bo continued on these groups all winter and with their already largo tounaco of sacked oro they can com mence shipping at any time. K. E. Stingloy of Salt Lake City, who is tho superintendent of the Granite Mountain Development company of Denver, tho owners of the Osceola group, is due hero by announcement to recommenco at once. Upon tho Badger and Lucky Strike groups, owned by Charles E. Johnson et al., over 300 feet of tunnel work has beon dono during the year. Tho largo dumps upon these groups showing galena, silver, gold and copper, together with a pile of lead-silver lead-silver oro upon the platform at Dolly Vardcn siding on the Nevada Northern railroad, epenk for themselves. Tu'o log houses aro being erected by an Italian company on grounds adjacent to the Eldorado and Lucky Strike groups, preparatory to the winter's work. Ono of them has been completed and is now occupied 1)3' the workmen. Tho properties above alluded to have reference to the eastern 7.ono of tho district. Within tho central zone, where tho famous Moore fc McAuloy and Victoria groups arc located, the representation of property is more numerous, but owing to the large number num-ber of claims bonded by It. T. Root & Co. of Denver on long time, a groat do.'il of excellent ground has been permitted per-mitted to lie idle during tho year, very much to the detriment of other property owners. Aside from the. largo number of bonded claims this syndicate controls over one hundred locations and has for two and a half j-oara relocated tho grounds at tho expiration of every three months. From most of monuments from seven to eighty relocation notices can be found to verify this statement. Notwithstanding this embargo, such men ns Joseph Moore. W. A. McAulc', Captain T. Mahan, John Phalan, James Byron (merchant at Currie), George Mnddolana, Warren Whito, Frank Her-rell. Her-rell. Pete Satori, Antouo Toppiano, George Gordon. T. Fletcher, John Bock, II. K. Mclutyrc, George I. Clark, James J. Gradey and twico ns man more, arc prosecuting their development work with greater vigor than ever before. Here Captain T, Mahan is building, for himself and workmcu a substantial house and at the same time unearthing rock and ore from his five claims, Her-rell Her-rell and Gordon, on their group of the same number, aro doing the same, while Mrs. Ilcrrcll looks after something good to cat for breakfast, dinner and supper. ; Not an idle man can be found within the district. A visit on Sundn) last to the. Braggs Mining company camp was rowarded with the sight of fino frco gold aud high grade copper rock. This company is composed or SalL Lake City residents ami iiiwu :iiiuwiiih lor mi: amount OL work done must bo gratifying. The rock assays in copper as high as -10 per cent and. gold nt. $6 and $14 on tho surface. This induced the company to recommence work with a view of deep shaft and tunnel work from a central point in the group from what seems to be tho mother lode. Mr. Mclntyre states that it is their intention to follow tho ore vein until its trend and pormanency are established estab-lished beyond peradventttre. Mr. G. IT. Smith, who is n fourth owner in the Tilford locations, and his wifo took their departure for Riverside, Cal., on Friday last after seyoral weeks' sojourn in camp. m E. G. Austin and David Cable aro sacking some fine silver oru from their Robinson group and will soon havo n. second sliipmont for Salt Lake smelters. Roy Iligsby and brother, with two ansistiinU, havo just established estab-lished their camp nt Watson Springs to do contract, work for J. Conway. Antone Toppiano has erected a second camp with additional workmen. This will lie a busy district next year. |
