Under tne ruling of the faculty students who are not successfully carrying ten hours of work, or two-thirds of tho amount for which they are registered in, in case this is less than- fifteen hours, will bo dropped at tho close of tho first semester. sem-ester. Last year about fifteen were let out . under this ruling, and -the boys sseem to realize that it is up to them to clear things up before tho end of the semester. Prof. F. C. French' has instituted a novel plan of giving tho sophomore students in surveying somo very practical prac-tical work in mine surveying. "When the boys go out for their junior summer sum-mer work in the mining camos they are pretty green on underground work. To remedy this the underground tunnel running between the various buildings to convey the steam pipes is being surveyed by the sophomores. The tunnel tun-nel is very narrow, and for this reason requires considerable work which will no doubt prove of groat valuo in tho real niino survov. Plans are being made for a banquet in honor of Jacob Gould Schurman, president of Cornell university, who will be in this city the latter part of tho week. Thoro are several Cornell mcn at tho University, and thev are looking forward to tho visit of President Presi-dent Schurman with considerable pleasure. |
