Show SHIM'S WONDERFUL BECBBD ll RACES Considered .Most Wonderful Runner in World; Loses One Race in 1 500. Tribune Specliil Sporting Service. NEW YORK. Doe. 12. Holding every record from one and one-quarter miles to twelve, and with a performance perform-ance of 11 miles 1 1ST. yards an hour to his credit. Alfred Shrubb is regarded as the most remarkable distance runner tho yor!d has ovor s(;en. Ten miles is his lavoritc distance, but he has run fiftoeir miles in close to record time 1 hour. 20 minutes, 15 -1-5 seconds. There is little doubt in the minds of experts that Shrubb cap beat either Dorando or Haves ovor ton miles, but how he would perform over a longer route, say tho Marathon distance, is problematical. In view of the fact that England has always al-ways maintained that ten miles is enough for any man to run. a match with Doraudo over the historic twenty-six-milo route is unlikely. Shrubb has been beaten only onco in more than 1500 races. He hns out-classed everybody every-body he ever raced in America, so Hint now it is impossible to find any one man who can give him aii3- kind of a race. During the past year Shrubb has raced against relays of from two to four men and distances from four to twelve miles, and won easily by laps. Shrubb has boon running for ten y6ars and is as good as ever. Ho attributes at-tributes this to hard work and a clean life. |
