Prominent citizens of San Junji conn-t3' conn-t3' have filed with the State Bonrd of Pardons a protest against granting tho petition for tho pardon of Charles Rotha, the slayer of his wife and her alleged paramour, who ia now serving a lifo term in tho Stato prison. Utah, have road with doop rngret of the gigantic efforts that aro being mado to Induce your honorablo body to set aside the sentence of llfo Imprisonment now being served by Charles Botha, convicted In this county of tho murder in the first degree of William Tlbbltts, We who were former form-er neighbors and acquaintances of both Botha and Tlbbetts feel that to pnr-don pnr-don Botha, or even commute his sen tence, would be a travesty on Justice, Those of us who lived near Botha knew of his cruel and inhuman treatment treat-ment of his wife before he killed her We knew Tlbbetts during his llfo timo as an upright, honcBl. law-abiding citizen: citi-zen: wlillo on the other hand, we learned during Botha's trial and at about tho time of the trial, from watching his demeanor de-meanor aud listening to his story of the ense, both In and out of court, to know him as one of tho most cruol of men. We would rospectfully ask that vour honorable hon-orable body consider the feelings of tho people of this county, people who talked with Botha about the case, and listened to his testimony at tho trial and also knew his victims, when you are deciding what action you will take on the petition for Botha's pardon, as wc- feel that the killing of Tlbbets as well as that of Mrs. Botha was ono of the most atrocious, brutal, premeditated murders ever committed com-mitted in the Stale. J8, 1005; J. D. Sparks, for pardon, convicted con-victed of burglary by Salt Lake courts Jan. IS, J)0o, and sentenced to three years: James Ovcrson, for parole, convicted con-victed of grand larceny at Fillmore, .1uly J, 1005. 'and sentenced to five years: Albert Whitakcr, for pardon, convicted of assault with intent to kill by the Salt Lako courts Aug. 10, 1905, and sentenced to twenty years. |
