Show SHEEPMEi CONSULT HAILROAD OFFICIALS Will Discuss and Suggest the Needed Improvements in Transportation of Stock. Special to The Tribune. CHEYENNE. Wyo., Feb. 2S-Represen- ta Lives of the "Western railroads and various var-ious committees from the National and State Woolgrowcrs association will convene con-vene in Cheyenne next Thursday to discuss dis-cuss the car shortage question and other problems in connection wlUi improving the sen Ice for the benefit of livestock shippers. At present railroads are apparently ap-parently unable to render satisfactory service to shippers and the sheep men are anxious to offer suggestions that will be acceptable to railroad officers. The latter will be asked to adopt a speed limit rule In operating trains of livestock so that there will be less delay In delivering shipments to their destination. destina-tion. If these suggestions are adopted it will mean lhat a minimum rate schedule. ficrhans fifteen or twenty miles an hour, ncludlng all stops, will bo used as a basis The usual charges for transportation will apply to this minimum rate. The railroads rail-roads will thou have the privilege of running run-ning trains with a minimum speed exceeding ex-ceeding this schedule by running at a rate of thirty or even thirty-five miles an hour for which they may require from the shipper transportation rales In excess ex-cess of tho customary charges. An arrangement ar-rangement of this kind would adjust many of the difficulties which now evlst In the livestock transportation business and wovdd not conflict with any of the laws and regulations now In force. Other suggestions will be made with a view to averting further inconveniences because of th shortage of slock cars. One of these will be that the stock caj-s be used for the purpose for which they were originally designed Instead of converting con-verting them Into cars for the transportation transpor-tation of sugar beets, coal, etc., as has been done heretofore. From promises of cooperation made by the railroad officials offi-cials during the last Woolgrowej!' convention con-vention the sheep men anticipate that arrangements which will at least better conditions will be made during the conference. |
