Show HEAVY LOSS ON ORANGES. Shortage of Cars Prevents Transportation Transporta-tion of Fruit. LOS AXGELES, Fob- 28. Orange' shipments from Southern California for February are about 1000 carloads short of the figure estimated by the growers to be necessary for thp moving of the crop and to insure against loss. The trouble is laid to car shortage. The railroads say they have not. sullicient motive power to move tho freight. The railroads proposed informally to furnish the fruit shippers with an average av-erage of 150 cars daily during Februnry and averaged but 111. President F. B. Fay of the California Ciirus union stated today that in his opinion there would be 4000 cars or more of oranges left, on tho trees at the end of the season. |
