Show PEOPLE MUST PAY SMOOT'S EXPENSES Special to The Tribune. WASHINGTON, D. ('., Feb. 28'. An echo of the Smoof case was heard in the Senate today when Senator George Sutherland offered a proposed addition to the general deficiency de-ficiency hill in the Senate to pay his ' Mormon colleague $15,000 to reimburse him for alleged expense incurred in defending his right to a seat in the Senate. Much of the amount is alleged to have been paid in attorneys' fees. Mr. Smoot. when ques-.. ques-.. lioned, told a colleague lhat lie had paid out over $30,000. Over $20,000 of that went to attorneys in Salt U)k and Washington, hut he was advised to cut down the expense bill, and Mr. Sutherland put it. iu for $15,000. .
