Show Fill IE YORK II Ukll IF FLORIDA Long Journey Will Be Attempted At-tempted by Enthusiastic Au torn ohi lists. Tribune Special Sporting Service. JACKSONVILLE. Fla.. Dec. S. With tho Increasing interest this season over the big race meet on the Florida coast at Ormonde in January, the addition of a 200-mile race by the management, and the assurancp that several racing cars, as well as some of tho Vjindorhllt Cup conlcsiiinls, will be on the scene for the big events, the question of touring all tho way from New York 10 Florida has been discussed with more than usual ardor ar-dor In automobile circles. The bad roads In the South have always been held up as ihe chief drawback, but. considering tho triumphs I hat American cars have accomplished during the past year over ull sorts and conditions of roads In this country and Canada. It is not likely that the trail paths through long stretches In Georgia, which would be the most trying State, would prove nn Insurmountable barrier to aulomoblllsts, providing the meet came at any other time of the year than In tho mlddlo of winter. All that seems necessary, however, to make a motor tour to Florida posslblo is for a group of energetic owners to determine de-termine that lliey will make the effort. Several nutolsts have already expressed the opinion ' that they would be only too glad to make the trip, provided others would promise to go. If only three or four cars could be obtained, thus making the trip appear In the nature of a regular regu-lar tour, the Southern automobile clubs would readily co-operate in welcoming the travelers and the effect wr'd beja salutary salu-tary one for Improving Ihe roads In any of the sections traversed. Several automoblllsts have made tho trip from Jacksonville to Ormonde. In view of the annual motor interest In Florida Flor-ida cvory wlntor, efforts aro now being made to improvo tho coast road so that riders and visitors to the various resorts from Jacksonville to Miami may be able to travel from place lo place In their cars. An endurance run Is now being discussed from Jacksonville to Miami, nearly -100 miles. The event will he held provided enough visiting autolsts signify signi-fy their willingness to compete. If successful suc-cessful it would be the biggest thing of Ihe kind over held in the South, and It would also have the effect of adding a vory practical feature to tho Florida automobile au-tomobile interests which hitherto havo been solely centered upon straightway speed races on the smooth beach between Ormonde and Daylonia. |
