Show "SLUG IF NECESSARY" I COMMANDS OF SHEA Man Who Obeyed Orders of Head of Teamsters' Union Completes Testimony. CHICAGO. Dec. 8. The cross-examination of William Kelly, self-confessed slugger and paynianlcr of Cornelius P. Shea's picket lorces during the teamsters' team-sters' strike a yenr ago, ivns concluded late this afternoon, after Kelly had testified tes-tified that he had served as a picket from the inception of tho striko and had been paid $0 a week as long as the striko lasted. Michael Murphy, who pleaded guilty with Kelly and W. O. young, former president of tho International Interna-tional Brotherhood of Teamsters, was the next witness called. Murphy gave testimony similar to Vonng and Kelly, but recited more instances in-stances of slugging. According to Murphy's Mur-phy's evidence, his and his eompHiiions' principal work was to bring about blockades and to prevent wagons driven by non-union teamsters from reaching 1 strike-bound houses. Murphy declared that the picket cre.w of which he was the leader did a great deal of slugging during the strike. "Pull them ofT, and, if you can't do that, knock them oft'," said Mnrpln-, "were the orders wc had in dealing with tho strike-breakers; and wo carried out the orders to the best of our ability.'' |
