Show BENNETT CUP OFFERED. Motor Boat Club of America Accepts Proffer of $1,000 Cup. Tribune Spoclal Sporting Service. NUW YORK. Deo. 8 The Motor Boat club ol America has accepted the proffer or the $1000 cup, donated bv James Gordon Gor-don Bennett and tendered to It bv Thomas Fleming Day, and will offer It for a race to Bermuda, to encourage tho building and racing of seaworthy boats- Tho cup Is offered without restriction, and Mr. Day immediately suggested tho Bermuda race under Joint arrangement of tho Motor Mo-tor Boat club and tho Royal Bermuda acht club. Tho start will be made on June S. from off the clubhouse on the Hudson. Tho entries are limited to boats propelled by an Internal combustion englno. not longer than sixty feet over all. nor less than forty feet. Throe entrants arc already pledged, one by Commodore Frank Maler of tho Xew Rochelle Yacht club, winnor of the TJpton cup last year, and another from Ebon Stevens, owner of Sis, the winner of last year's Marblohead race. Mr. Stevens has given a $250 cup for another Marblehoad race. Four entries have also boon received for the Bermuda sailboat race, three schooners nnd one yawl. Tho sailboats will start Juno 5, so as to havo all the boats reach the Island at the same time, If possible. The Royal Bermuda Yacht club will offer cups for a race after the boats reach Bermuda. |
