Show BOLD ATTEMPT TO ROB; IIOCEHT II KILLED Wonld-Bc Bank Looter Captured Cap-tured by Posse After Bystander By-stander Is Slain. GREAT BEND, Kan., Dec. 8. After a daring attempt here at 9 o'clock this morning to rob the J. V. Brinkman company bank, single-handed, a man who gave his name as George A. Lewis, of Kansas Citv, was surrounded and surrendered. Bud "Westfoll, a driver for the Wells Fargo Express company, was killed by a snot llrcd by one of the pursuers.' Lewis walked into the bank a few minutes after it opened this morning, and pointing a revolver at A. E, Taylor, Tay-lor, the cashier, ordered the latter to throw up his hands. In an instant a clerk dodged into the vault and sot olf the burglar alarm. Lewis fled immediately im-mediately and darted up an alley. A crowd ot' nicn and boys were soon close behind him in pursuit and scciug himself him-self being hemmed in, the robber darted up the stairs in the "Wells Fargo building, two blocks from the bank. On the second floor he locked himself in a room for an hour and defied arrest. ar-rest. Several shots were fired into the room in an attempt to dislodge the robber. One bullet struck and instantly killed Driver Westfall, who was in the express office on the street floor. , Finallj, after parleying for an hour' with his pursuers, Lewis surrendered and was taken to the county jail. Officers Offi-cers believe that the name of Lewis is fictitious. Tho man said that he came here from Chicago threo days ago to do the job. The robber is 20 years of age, weighs 100 pounds and is six feet tall. He has light hair and blue eyes and is well-dressed. well-dressed. He admitted that he had not given liis correct name.
