Kalncy will take up cross-country raclnp next year and has purchased the Harbor Hill winner, T. S. Martin, as the beginning of a stable of jumpers. The purchase was made by Trainer William Garth, and wasT consummated on receipt of a telegram from Mr. Ralney. The prlco was not made public, but It Is understood to be $8000. Mr. Garth has been very successful with jumpers ever since he has been training horses, and believes that T. S. Martin Is a first-class first-class horse and well worth the money paid for him. Mr. Garth should know, for he has han- dletl T. S. Martin since the horse was a. yearling. Since he has been racing over the Jumps ho was the property of C. C. Smlthson, but under Mr. Garth's management. man-agement. The iipws that Mr. Rahicy will take up this branch of tho sport will be welcome to the ndhorenls of cross-country racing. It means that with a capable man like Mr. Garth at the helm the stable Is sure to be one of no mean pretension. Mr. Garth Is very well pleased with tho turn of affairs, for he would feel lonesome lone-some without a few Jumpers In his barn. |
