M.urdock and Welser. owners of tho Captain !KIdd gold mines on the Virgin river, have Just struck a three-foot vein of $100 free gold ore In their 200-foot tunnel run In on a stringer which went ?500 in coarso gold on the Ella cjalm of tho group. They have erected an arasta and are grinding on tho yellow metal dally with Dig pay results. M. K. Burwell. half-owner of the Golden Sheaf group of mines north from Moapa, has Just received assay returns on samples sent to Salt Lako of $45 nnd $70 gold and K54 ounces silver per ton. Tho oro was taken from a four-foot vein on which a drift has been run 210 feet from tho breast of a 300-foot tunnel driven driv-en to cross-cut the vein. They havo attained at-tained a depth of 210 feet and the vein lies between quartzlte walls, tho ore being be-ing decomposed and full of black hematite" hema-tite" of Iron, honey-combed and showing high values which are increasing with depth.
