Show From tho great outcry made by the" Democracy, and tho prominence given the matter by Judge Parker In his letter let-ter of acceptance, one might have supposed sup-posed that the disability pension order would bo a complete devastator of the Treasury. But Congress never had that idea, ns Is evident from Its moderate mod-erate appropriation of $1,500,000 to meet whatever extra expense might be necessary ne-cessary because of it, for the year; this action by Congress being an unmistakable unmista-kable approval of the order. But the cost of it is even lesa than that sum, for the order Is not likely to call for more than thirty thousand dollars a month, oo that the appropriation Is far more than is needed. In fact, no appropriation appro-priation at all would have been needed the natural decrease In pension payments pay-ments amounting to far more than tho added cxpenso by reason of that orderi And bo this great Democratic -Issue simmers down to nothing at all, on any account. |
