Show I I ARMIES CLOSE TOGETHER. Trenches So Near That Many Small Collisions Occur. HANCHEPU, Nov. 1. Everything was quiet today all along tho lino. Tho trenches of tho opposing parties aro so close that there are many small collisions, colli-sions, especially during the night. The Japaneso on October SO and 31 heavily cannonaded the Russian right and center, cen-ter, but tho attack did not develop Into the expected advance. The Russians shelled a village opposite their right Hank on October 31. An Immense volume ot smoko was seen, followed by the sound of a heavy explosion, and it is supposed that ono of tho Russian shells oxploded a magazine or ammunition train Inside the Japanese lines. A Chlncso who has Just arrived from Ylnkow reports that a Japanoae transport landed two thousand men there on October Octo-ber 29 and that another supply ship had brought in a great quantity of rlco and stores. A third transport was outsldo tho harbor when the Chlncso left. Capt. Skldonenko was killed on Octobe'r 23. He had just finished a reconnaissance of the Japanese lines and entered tho hut In the village of Dalyantar. to wrlto his report when a Japanese shell came in at the window and mortally wounded tho captain and killed or wounded a number of his men. |
