Show Married One Week Then Kills Himself Well-Known Ogdcn Contractor and Buildor Takes Poison After Separating- Prom His Bride. Special to Tho Tribune. OGDEN. Nov. 1. Married last Wednesday, Wednes-day, separated from his wife yesterday morning, and a suicide tonight. Thus ended tho career of Ernest E. Bertram, who killed himself by morphine poisoning In his rooms in the Bennett block today. Bertram va3 n well-known carpenter nnd builder, and was associated In business with Charles LIshtfoot. Bertram appeared at the County Clerk's office last Wednesday in company with Miss Myra Crltes and applied for a mar-rlago mar-rlago license Ho was mnrrled the day following and tho couple took rooms ln tho Bennett block. He and his wlfo had trouble and sho left him yesterday morning, morn-ing, returning to the homo of her foster-father. foster-father. Charles Llghtfoot. Bertram was seen to enter his homo as usual last night, but was not seen today until about 3 o'clock In the afternoon. ylr: Llfhtfoot called at the building and inquired of the landlady. Mrs. Mul-loy, Mul-loy, as to Jiis whereabouts. Sho said that she had not seen him since the night before, be-fore, and Llghtfoot, In company with Mrs. Mulloy, went to the room and. entering with a pass key, found Bertram lyln on the bed, unconscious. Everv effort failed to arousofhlm, and Dr. Conroy and Dr. Forbes were called In. Thev soon diagnosed diag-nosed tho case as morphine p'olsonlng and said the man was beyond aid. He died at C o'clock. Later on two letters were found which had been left by Bertram, one addressed to his wife, In which he said that hv for-gavo for-gavo her all and that he had left her an Insuranco policy In tho A. O. U. W. for $DX0 and another letter addressed to "W. II. Toler. In which he asked Mr. Toler to see that his wife's Interests were protected pro-tected and that she got tho money. Bertram was 37 yearn old and his wlfo 20. Sho was tho fostor child of Mr. and Mrs. Llghtfoot. The body was taken to Richey's undertaking parlors. It is possible pos-sible that an Inquest may be held tomorrow, tomor-row, but so far Judiic Howell has not definitely decided. The funeral will bo In charge or the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the A. O. U. W., both orders of which he was a member. |
