THE contract for the construction of the new Central school In thc Fortieth district, on State street, between Eleventh and Twelfth South, was awarded last night by Architects J. A. Headlund & Co. to Joseph Clark Stlckney, the subject of this sketch, was born April 3, 1810 in West Andover, Mass. He went to New Hampshire In his boyhood, where he married his first wife. Rachel D. Cram, who died In June. 1S53. leaving two children, Albert and Damlu, He married mar-ried his second wife, Elizabeth Jane Stewart. In Pctcrboro, N. H., in 18G6. both being members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-das' Saints, having hav-ing united with the same In 1612. He. with his wife and two children, left their home in Peterboro for Utah, traveling across the plains with an ox team In Agustus Campficld's company, in October, 1S62. He located In Salt Lake City for two years, "when he moved to Santaquin, Utah county, Contractor W. J. Dean, and work will be begun at once. Thc building is to cost $20,000. It will bo of brick, with stone trimmings and stone basemont, and will contain eight classrooms, besides be-sides a large corridor, a principal's I roonl, teachers' room and recitation where he resided for forty years. There his only son, Albert, was killed In a snowslide, leaving a wife and four children. chil-dren. He was president of the high priest quorum about twenty years, but owing ow-ing to the infirmities of age, he. with his wife, removed to Murray In 1901. to spend his remaining days with his only child, Mrs. W. II. Atwood. where he waa very, very tenderly cared for until un-til the end. He died May 10. 1901, leaving an aged wife, one child, eleven grandchildren, forty-one great-grandchildren, two . great-great-grandchildren. Ho died as ' he had always lived, an honest, noble, 1 true Latter-day jalnt, beloved and rc-! rc-! spected by all. room. The heating plant will be outside out-side of thc main building. Tho new building will be situated immediately im-mediately In the rear of the Fortieth district's old building, an out-of-date structure, which will be torn down after af-ter the new one Is completed. |
