Show THE D0Q POISONERS. Deep indeed must be the depths of Infamy In-famy and cruelty directing the evil spirits which have been at work in Halt Lake City for some montha destroying man's best friend, tho dog. It is hard to conceive a motive in normal man or woman for this cruel work. Early last fall one of our leadiv? citizens citi-zens reported the loss by poison of his house dog. The animal was lnoffensivo and in no wise vicious. Tho destroyer could not be located, nor could the motive mo-tive of him or her be conceived or conjectured. con-jectured. Then followed In quick succession suc-cession the destruction of first a bird dog, then one coach or stable or house dog after another. Finally the work of the dog poisoner or poisoners became epidemic. It is estimated that more than one hundred splendid dogs have been poisoned pois-oned in Salt Lake City during the past three or four months; and not one of the dumb animals had committed' nny offense, so far as can be ascertained, against any one, or given any excuse for the destruction. Apparently the work of the dog poisoner pois-oner of this city Is actuated by a diseased dis-eased mind or eomc abnormality which gives bent and forco to natural cruelty Inbred in tho person. An enterprising citizen has announced that he will pay a. liberal reward for the detection of the person, or persons responsible for the destruction of our dogs. No step could be taken in the direction di-rection of humanity or common decency de-cency tliat would receive heartier sympathy sym-pathy or support than this offer of reward. re-ward. It Is to be hoped that it will result re-sult In the apprehension of the guilty person or persons, so that there may be swift justice dealt out through the courts or otherwise. There Ja no punishment pun-ishment for this cruelty that can be too great or swift.' |
