Show CITY WILL SEEK INJUNCTION i I IRRIGATORS I PARLEYS CANYON i k CAN-YON TO BE SUED Edward Laird Sr and Mountain Summer Resort Will be Defendants Claimed They Use Citys Water The City Councils Committee on Jordan Canal and Irrigation met yesterday yes-terday afternoon with Mayor Thompson and City Attorney Stephens to consider the best means to be taken to prevent the farmers In Parleys canyon from taking more of the waters of Parleys creek for irrigation purposes than they are entitled to thus further diminishing dimin-ishing the citys already attenuated supply Land and Water Commissioner 1 Wcsterfield represented to the committee commit-tee that 13d Laird Sr and the mountain moun-tain summer resort of which Barlow Ferguson J H Moyle George F Felt and others are the owners are the principal offenders Laird it is claimed Is taking ten times as much water as he is entitled to or needs and It was said Is doing so at this particular time when the city Is short of water to force the municipality to buy him out He It is claimed is only entitled to primary pri-mary water rights sufficient to irrigate Irri-gate twentyfive acres oC land and there being no surplus water now that is all he Is entitled to Ho is however they say irrigating sixtyfive acres most copiously and Ignoring not only the rights of the city but those of tho others who own primary rights Mr Westerficld says Laird is very defiant in his attitude and utterly ignored all remonstrances The summer resort Is it is claimed also taking large quantities quanti-ties of water more than It Is entitled to and there are others doing the same thing to the total extent of 3700000 gallons per day The committee which was given power to act Instructed the City Attorney At-torney to bring an injunction suit against Laird and the summer resort ngnnsl And the same if It can be got ready in that time will be filed on Monday |
