Show Theatre. Miss Dargon took her farowcll benefit last night, and present pre-sent ad "Rising of the Moon" to a largo and fashionable audience. Tho pieco was fairly performed and well put on the stage, although there was ono or two hitches in the "business," such as often attend the first presentation presenta-tion of a new play. As a drama, "Kising of the Mom" does not take a rank equal to Miss Dargon's powers. It is bettor than a large elass of pieces which have been of late thrown upon tho country; but as a literary production produc-tion it is more common-place than might have been expected, considering tho materials with which tho author had to work. For although thcjplot is hackneyed, hack-neyed, in the numerous Irish dramas growingout of tho insurrection of '9S, thero is still in tho incidents and situations situa-tions enough to afford an author opportunity op-portunity to rise to the dignity of a tragic poem, and furnish lines and languago relieved from olap trap aod "spread-eagleism," yot full of pathos, dignity, patriotism aod sublimity. Miss Dargon, in securing pieces, should seek a poet, not a mere play-wright, to ; throw his power into tho creation of charaotors for her groat abilities to fittingly fit-tingly embody. |
