club at its last meeting Mans efforts at economy were depleted de-pleted with many illustrations in nearly near-ly every department of human labor In mining agriculture the arts and in the production of chemicals The meager results obtained in proportion propor-tion to the material and energy expended ex-pended were compared with those obtained ob-tained in natures workshop where absolutely nothing is wasted In proportion pro-portion as man learns natures methods meth-ods and succeeds in applying them will I he learn true economy Dr Talmage attributed mans failure to utilize all I the material and energy for mechanical mechan-ical work or otherwise to a wrong motive mo-tive Man has been striving for intensity in-tensity instead of quantity of energy This was illustrated by the seeking after intense emotional sensation which was declared the poorest kind of economy Another illustration was I presented in the form of comparison I of our present method of illumination by light radiating from a center of I great brilliancy or intensity with the method upon whlc Tlcola Tesla is now at work viz that producing great quantity of light J t lov intensity I which coming from things e wa5 and ceIlings ceIl-ings would be squally diffused throughout the room The lecture closed with the thought that mans natural destiny is the control con-trol of all the forces and materials of nature and that in the proportion that man claimed his heritage was he great The club gave Dr Talmage a unanimous unani-mous vote of thanks for the lecture which was more than practical as it set the club members thinking Next Tuesday March 23 is presidents presi-dents day For that occasion a pro gramme has been prepared which is in the nature of a conference on municipal munici-pal reform A
