Show SCENES AT SEA Signals Which Were Misunderstood May Mean Much or Little New York March 20The steamer I Kaiser Wilhelm arrived in Hoboken today from the other side The logbook I log-book show thai a 130 oclock on I Wednesday afternoon last while in I latitude 407 north and longitude 4929 west the Kaiser Wilhelm passed the English tramp Yanariva bound for the I other side The Yanariva sgnalled I the Kaiser Wilhelm but owing to I some mistake the signals were not plainly understood Chief Officer Dan neman of the Kaiser Wilhelm said this evening that as far as they could make out the signals were Sixteen St Nazarie French When the chief officer was asked what he thought the English steamer meant to convey he said that he was under the impression that the Yanar iva had seen the Ville St Nazaire which was wrecked off Hatteras but I had been unable to get to her on account ac-count of the rough weather Then again he said it might have been that I the English ship had succeeded in rescuing res-cuing 16 of the St Nazaire passengers and that they were on their way to I England The Yanariva will not reach j the other side until Thursday or Friday i Fri-day The first officer thought the officers of-ficers of the Yanariva knowing that I the Kaiser Wilhelm would reach port first wanted her to make a report There was said to be considerable improvement today of the four men I saved from the wreck in the steamship Ville St Nazaire Mr Maire the surgeon I sur-geon and Mr Sauts the engineer have been removed from La Normandie to the Hotel Martin Dr Maire who appeared to be sinking sink-ing on Friday rallied and was believed today to be out of danger |
